Case Study: Green Business Certification for Thriving Campus Organization
the client
Our client – one of the oldest sororities on the UC Berkeley campus – has a sprawling house with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay. Over 65 members reside in this 70 year old house.
the challenge
With a growing concern for developing environmental friendly lifestyles, our client decided to follow the footsteps of a few other Cal sororities in pursuing Alameda Green Business Certification. Our client approached BEACN seeking guidance in navigating the Green Business Certification process.
what we did
Like many of Cal’s Greek houses, our client’s aging house lacked efficient retrofitting. After conducting an initial audit of the entire house in regards to Energy, Water, Waste, and Pollution, we provided feasible recommendations for our client based on the Green Business Certification criterion. Specific audits included a trash audit, light audit, heat audit, and toilet audit. We provided additional research in the form of cost saving rebates to purchase energy efficient appliances and fixtures.
