Alexandra de Hemptinne

Alex is a junior from Belgium studying Environmental Economics as well as Sustainable Design. She is interested in global social impact and sustainable business development. Alex manages all of BEACN’s off campus partnerships and works to secure strong relationships with alumni, past clients, and industry leaders who uphold the same values of social and environmental sustainability.
Angelica Juarez is a sophomore from Bell, CA studying Molecular Environmental Biology and Public Policy. As an Associate Consultant, Angelica is excited to learn about how environmental sustainability can be achieved in the business sector. After college, she is considering a career in environmental law and hopes her time in BEACN will give her an insight on new ways to make a positive impact.
Austin is a Junior Transfer from Santa Barbara City College. He is studying Environmental Economics and Policy with the hope of finding market-oriented solutions to environmental issues. As an Associate Consultant, he is looking forward to doing practical work and making a difference in BEACN. After college, he hopes to work for a consulting firm or think tank performing data analysis for sustainability.
Cheyenne is a junior from Dubai, UAE studying Society and Environment, with a concentration in Global Environmental Politics, as well as majoring in Media Studies. She enjoys analyzing environmental issues through a political ecology lens, and is especially passionate about ocean conservation, the distribution of resources, and the overall relationship between humans and non-human nature. As an Associate Consultant, Cheyenne looks forward to expanding her skills in environmental activism in order to address today’s urgent, multifaceted environmental issues.
Connor is a sophomore from SoCal studying Physics with a minor in Atmospheric Science. He is passionate about climate change prevention and mitigation with an emphasis on greenhouse gas emission control and minimization, finding sources of renewable energy, and developing a further understanding of the natural world. He hopes to go on to get a PhD in a related field and work to help stop anthropogenically driven climate change. As an Associate Consultant, Connor hopes to develop his understanding of how businesses can impact the environment and to help them become more sustainable.
George is a first year from New York intending to study economics. As a student, he hopes to explore the intersection between business and sustainable development. Specifically, he is passionate about understanding the implications of current sustainable markets and their role in new emerging businesses centered around environmentalism. As an Associate Consultant, George intends to work in a collaborative team effort to help streamline business operations and learn as much as he can about sustainable development.
Jaskirat (Jas) Gaelan
Jaskirat Gaelan is a junior from Central Valley, CA studying Business Administration. She credits her fondness for business and technology to the experiences she had helping her parents make entrepreneurial efforts to survive in the United States as immigrants and the curiosity she experienced as a first-generation college student. Her long-term aspirations are to leverage consulting and marketing to engage in sustainable business efforts to eliminate-socioeconomic disparity and foster a stronger sense of community wherever she goes.
Mari Harnish is a sophomore from San Diego, CA studying Environmental Economics & Policy with a minor in Data Science. Throughout her time in BEACN, she hopes to develop her business intuition and explore the intersection between environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Outside of green business, Mari is passionate about environmental health, sustainable agriculture, and youth education. She plans to study abroad next year contributing to environmental health efforts in the Solomon Islands. After college, she aspires to do conservation work abroad before pursuing a career in environmental consulting.
Mei is a senior studying green infrastructure and urban agriculture. Mei’s background is in art and design, and she has worked in the film industry and producing art for festivals. She hopes to merge her experiences in design with her current studies in plant science and urban issues to create a career in the construction on green roofs, living walls, and plant based infrastructural solutions to urban problems. She is passionate about writing and rock climbing, and is currently combining these passions into her thesis project, which focuses on studying cliffside ecology and its application to the urban environment. As an associate consultant Mei hopes to develop a deeper understanding of the reasons businesses chose sustainable options, to better advocate for sustainability and environmentalism in the future.
Michael Joseph Alves
Michael Joseph (MJ) is a third year transfer student from San Rafael, CA. He is studying Society and Environment with a concentration in Global Environmental Politics, as well as minor in Demography. MJ’s interests in Environmental Law and Justice, Sustainable Energy, Waste, and Food Systems inspired him to become an Associate Consultant at BEACN. His long-term goal is to work to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change and unsustainable energy practices on populations and to also advocate for people who have been displaced by environmental problems. MJ also teaches ESL & Natural Disaster Preparedness and works in immigration law all around the Bay Area. Away from work and academia, you can find him hiking or biking in the mountains or on the dance floor.
Minho Theodore Park
Minho is a Junior from Chicago, Illinois, studying Conservation and Resource Studies focusing on Environmental Law with a minor in Geospatial Information System. Using the interdisciplinary skills necessary in these fields of study, he hopes to work with businesses to make tangible changes towards a more sustainable future. As an Associate Consultant, Minho hopes obtain a greater working knowledge of the relationship between businesses, policy, and the legal process, all while developing his professional skills and network.
Missy Martin is a junior from Naperville, IL studying Society and Environment. She is passionate about transforming the university food system so that students have access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. As an Associate Consultant, Missy hopes to broaden her knowledge on how to develop innovative solutions through synthesizing information from environmental, social, and economic factors. She is on a lifelong journey of combining activism, business, communications, and policy to promote a sustainable and thriving planet for present and future generations.
Rafael A. Grillo Avila
Rafael is a first-year doctoral student at Berkeley Law’s Jurisprudence and Social Policy program. He will pursue research in law and economics so as to inform low-carbon sustainable development policy. Born in Costa Rica and raised in the United States, Rafael firmly believes that solutions to the world’s most pressing problems requires understanding and addressing all stakeholders’ needs. As such, Rafael is excited to complement his top-down studies with bottom-up initiatives through BEACN, and in the process come to understand and help build a thriving economy that meets a triple bottom line.
Skyler is a first year student from Burbank, California seeking a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Physics. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball and tennis, rock climbing, and watching romantic movies. Skyler has always had a deep love for the outdoors and the beauty of nature. He aims to use his skills in business and operations to change the status quo of environmental standards. He hopes to work for a prominent renewable energy company and help facilitate the transition of the energy sector to clean energy sources.
Tanatswa Carlton Mapondera
Tanatswa is a senior from Zimbabwe studying Political Economy and Environmental Economics and Policy. He has a particular interest in energy’s role in today’s global political, economic and environmental spheres. As an Associate Consultant, Tanatswa intends to strengthen his understand of energy markets and clean technology so that he can one day use his entrepreneurial spirit and refined acumen to enact change back home.
Vicente is a freshman from San Diego, California studying Environmental Science. He is passionate about conservation and hopes to further study and research new technologies to solve the complicated problems that our society is currently facing. With some basic experience in environmental law he hopes to further develop his research skills and as an Associate Consultant create holistic solutions to the challenges presented.
Member - Abroad
Zach is a third year from Princeton, NJ pursuing an Environmental Economics and Policy major and a Energy and Resources Group minor. He enjoys mountain biking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and anything else that will get him outdoors. Zach loves learning about the energy industry and is particularly passionate about helping to move the dial on energy storage, a key technological component of the global energy shift! This semester Zach will be studying in New Zealand, and looks forward to rejoining BEACN in the fall!
